Power Off

Isn't it weird how the human brain works?  Now hold on a second, I am by no means claiming to know anything about how the human brain works or (if we're being honest) do I care to learn.  What I'm referring to, rather, is the much simpler(?) more simple topic of how our brain links words and topics together in the most odd ways.  For example, yesterday at work a coworker said something (ok, I wasn't listening much) that ended in "online".  This made me think of a local company "Z-Line" which stemmed a whole different conversation.

The reason this comes up is that as of lately, I can't seem to find the Power Off button to my brain at night.  During this unwanted on period while lying in bed my mind goes from one thing to the other and then back to the first thing.  Honestly, I have even sat in bed trying to piece it all together and figure out how I got from macroeconomics to apples to needing toothpaste.  Seriously...how does that happen?!  Ok, since we're honest here, I even find my brain wondering off without permission while praying.  (I'll keep this short because this is a whole 'nother post, but I'm "new" to praying and am trying to build a closer and stronger relationship with God, so it's not that I'm uninterested or rude...my mind just has a mind of it's own.  I'd control it if I could!!)

I have a note in my phone for blog post topics.  This note was late updated July 20th at 11:25pm.  Here is what it now reads:

Blog Ideas:
*Religion
*Signs - Lori paper & notebook under Bible
*Brain never stopping...one thought oddly links to another, yet I have a BAD memory

These notes do make sense to me, though probably not much to you (sneak peak of the fun posts you have to look forward to).  As you can see, last Wednesday night I had a big Power On night in bed.  The BAD memory part comes in because I have all these thoughts...and probably the worst memory ever.  Seriously, it's bad - Wes doesn't believe how much I don't remember - I think he thinks I'm making it up when I say I don't remember...I wish I were...!

My random topic break
In other news, I think I'm doing reasonably okay in the whole diet attempt.  I hate the word diet and any "diet" I've tried I've failed miserably at.  Insteadk, I like to think I'm just being more conscious of what I eat and do.  At lunch I had to drop off my Trailblazer (I always say truck - but my loving father always answers with "You don't have a truck.") to get the air conditioning worked on since it hasn't been working on the driver's side since mid-wedding trip.  Yes, during the heat stroke of Iowa a couple weeks ago this lady had no AC in the truck.  Anyway, point being: I had to walk back to work after lunch.  Ok, so it's only like 3 (long) blocks, but they're also slightly uphill and I'm (admittedly) way out of shape.  So it's hot and I got a little sweat workout session in!!

I really enjoyed this post :) One good idea for before bed or praying is to write down your thoughts/prayers. What I do to calm my brain at night is read. I am usually able to power off thoughts about the lives of the characters more easily than I am able to power off thoughts about my own life. AND, way to go on the diet! You are doing it the right way!

love it. this is me every night, then I quit my job. It seemingly just shuts off when you don't have anything preventing you from wanting to wake up. However, it still comes back when I have assignments due or when Britt travels.

I think another idea for a blog post (and one to hold you to it, like you were doing before!) is to post your week wrap up of working out, eating and such!

and I MISS Tama/Toledo blocks... it's about 4 of those blocks to make up one here...

Jordon - Blog posts have a weird way of bringing thoughts/ideas to me. As I wrote this post I thought the exact same thing - I neeeeeed a small notebook & pen in my bed-side table!!

Kim - I like the idea of a weekly wrap up post pertaining to health. I will be a lot more successful once this term is over and I'm back to just one class (and I predict it to be a slightly easier class - we'll see). I hope that's not just a procrastination tactic I'm telling myself, but I really do think I'll have more time then for walking and such. The eating thing is still challenging. Especially when I'm home alone on Friday doing midterm exams - snacking it too tempting knowing that no one will know.... haha!

Thanks for the support!!

#1. "This made me think of a local company "Z-Line" which stemmed a whole different conversation." LOVE THIS! hahaha
#2. I know you aren't supposed to do this, but that's the reason I always turn the TV sleep timer on when I go to sleep because if I have quiet, my brain just goes. If it's mindless TV my brain gets bored and lets me sleep. =)
#3. For one of my classes we had to meditate. At first I thought it was the most strage thing ever, but the point of it is to be aware of things like how much your mind wonders. What things your mind picks up on without you noticing. It's actually kind of a neat thing to do and something that takes lots of practice.
