So for the most part I'm still oblivious to the fact that I'm pregnant. Yeah, I wear a belly band. Yeah, I look fat (though not pregnant). Yeah, I drive an hour once a month to see a doctor.
The full responsibilities and reality of what is happening and what will happen in 4.5 months hasn't completely hit me, though. I got some extra time today to do some research, though, and that kind of brought things into perspective. Like a big ol' slap in the face.
I started looking into natural childbirth. Due to my lack of knowledge on mid-wives, I chose to see doctors at a hospital, though mid-wives are an option there. Today as I looked into natural birth, it scared the crap out of me, quite honestly. Just reading it made me ache a little. I don't have a high pain threshold, admittedly. I get stressed out easily. I love my husband dearly but I'm not sure how he'll do in a high stress situation like that. If I try to do this natural birth thing...I'm going to need someone to keep me calm and relax because I'm pretty sure it's not going to happen on it's own. I know it's possible. I know women had no other choice for centuries. I know it's possible. I need to talk to the doctor at our next visit and see how it would work since I'm not seeing mid-wives. I need to know that they'll still be supportive of a natural birth and not try to push drugs on me if I chose to go natural. I need to prepare myself - that's what I got from my research today. Preparation.
I'd love to hear thoughts, opinions, and stories you may have on natural childbirth.
After that research slapped me hard had done it's fair share of rattling me...I decided to look into breast pumps. I fully intend to breast feed ... given Baby Boy will allow it. Pumps are expensive!!
Luckily, God is good, though. I called my insurance company and since I've already met my deductible, I'd only have to pay my 10% co-pay on a breast pump as long as I get one that accepts our insurance. So I am going to look into medical supply stores as well as the hospital to see what they offer.
Yesterday I started Week 22.
Baby:
•is the length of a spaghetti squash (11 inches).
•is about one pound.
•is developing tooth buds under his gums.
Momma:
•just feels fat.
•is still dizzy - but went to chiro Tuesday and hopes that helps.
•has frequent potty breaks during the night as baby likes to kick her bladder.

I have a Medela Pump In Style Breast Pump and have used it with both kids so far and intend on using it with this one. I love it. It works great and I haven't had any technical difficulties with it =]
If you are brave enough to try natural child birth good for you. But as for me I have had epidurals with both and fully intend on getting one with this baby too. I don't feel I missed anything by being more comfortable during child birth and especially with Jules (due to the fact I knew what to expect) I felt that I could enjoy/absorb more of what was happening.
Good luck to you and it is totally worth researching all options out there. Knowledge is power!

I too have the Medela Pump In Style Advanced and it has been great! I got mine at Pharmacy Matters in North Liberty and just paid a $20 copay which has been well worth the money! I have also used the Medela freezer bags and had really good luck with those.
I had my first natural, second with epidural....this one will DEFINATELY be with epidural. I experienced enough pre-epidural with the second that I had never been so relieved to get it. I got to get a little rest before baby came and wasn't screaming and ticked for whatever reason at my husband like I was with the first when baby came out. I used midwives with IA City with both the second and third (so far anyway). They are great and really I haven't been able to tell the difference and they had reassured me that if anything looked suspicious a dr would be called right in. Good luck!! I have 10 days (hopefully less!) left with this pregnancy!! WOO HOO
I love hearing about your pregnancy progress. I'm glad I can read your blog. :)
