I'm exhausted & just want to zonk out, but I'm trying to stay awake so we can try to breast feed at midnight. I've come this far, so I thought blogging would help for the last half hour.
Today was very eventful for our little family. Tonight, more specifically.
First, the good:
Lincoln was transferred to Bay 5 of the NICU!!!! What does that mean? Well, it means he's one step closer to coming home. Bay 5 is the last Bay - the least "needy" babies. How exciting is that?! To make matters even better the room is pretty awesome, too! We have a door (previously we had a curtain), a TV, a chair, recliner, and couch (which pulls out to a twin-size bed), and a private bathroom with a shower!!!! We're rolling in luxuries now! :)
Since this room is so much bigger and more furnished, I decided I'd spend the night in here with Lincoln. A chance to sleep next to my baby finally? Hell yes!
So I headed back to the Ronald McDonald house to get my blood pressure meds, contact solution/case, etc.
*Disclaimer: The following is not for the faint of heart (though I won't get graphic).*
The bad:
As I was sitting on the toilet I was observing my c-section incision. Above the cut is swollen, so I gently pressed above it to be able to get a good look at how it was healing. That's when the unthinkable happened.
My incision started gushing blood like a drinking fountain.
Not. Even. Exaggerating.
It had a nice arch to it. Seriously, like a drinking fountain arch. RIDIC. I was so shocked and freaked out. What do I do?! I grab toilet paper, cuz that's all that made sense & was in reach. It wouldn't stop. I went through 3 or 4 wads of tp before it finally became a trickle instead of a gush. So I one-handed (cuz ya know, the othe hand was busy trying to hold the blood in my body) changed my soaked garments. Evidently the act of bending down to grab my sweats was too much. We started gushing again. Ugh!
So fast forward to arriving at the Labor & Delivery unit. It was no longer bleeding so they thought we were good to go. Before putting a bandage on it (for my own peace of mind), they decided to use the wooden end of a q-tip to see how deep the spit that had bled was. Boom! Gush! Are you kidding me?! More garments soaked.
They decided they needed to open the incision back up around this spot because there was an excess of fluid built up that needed to be drained to prevent infection. Are you kidding me?! Ugh!
So they shot me with local anesthetic and opened it back up. After lotsa poking and pushing, they packed the incision. What this means (to me) is they want to keep the incision open (gah! ick!) so that it can heal from the inside first. This gives me the willies, honestly. So now I have to go in like once a day for them to repack it. Great. Ugh. At least we're close, I guess!
So they gave me 2 Percocet to help when the anesthetic wore off. Little did they know I hadn't eaten since 1pm (this is happening @ 9pm), so needless to say I got rather dizzy with those meds on an empty stomach. So I'm sitting munching on crackers now. ;)
Well look at that - I made it to 12! Thanks for the help! I will leave you with a picture of Lincoln finding his thumb & trying to hide it. Haha
