Things That Make You Go "Ewwww" . . .

Friday night I was sitting at the computer desk, posting recipes on our new Facebook page (Kenz & I's), talking to friends...and then I saw it.  The dreaded ... thing!  I guess insect would have been the easiest thing to describe it, but it was just indescribable.  I wasn't sure what to call it, but all I knew was that it was too big to just ignore.  I was home alone, since Wes was watching the final World Series game (sigh...we tried), so it was up to me.  I had to do something.  Ok, in the scheme of things it was relatively small...1.5 square inch or so, but it's legs - it's legs I tell ya!  There were way too many to count and they were so LONG!!  What was I going to use...?  I looked around and nothing in my reach seemed sacrificable...so I got up and found my Soduku book.  With the book in my right hand and a kleenex in my left, I approached the thing.  I smashed it with my right hand and before my left hand could reach the wall to grab the remains, I realized it was gone.  There was a splotch where it had been and there were approximately 5 legs stuck on the Sudoku book, but the rest was MIA.  I was confident it was dead, or at the very least disabled, since I now owned five of it's legs, but WHERE WAS IT?!?!  I turned my desk lamp to the floor to use as a spot light, heart racing.  Our carpet has speckles all over it (which I like, as it hides my hatred of vaccuuming), so it was hard to spot the thing.  After a few minutes of unsuccessful searching, I realized it must have fallen into the in-take register on the ground.  It was a logical enough theory to tame my heart, so it'll do.

After a little research, I think they're called "household centipedes".  I felt stupid, because I know what a centipede is (or so I thought).  I knew they had tons of legs and such, obviously, but I didn't think they were LONG legs.  This thing's legs were SOOOO long.  Gross!!  This is probably the third time I've seen one of these in our house in the three years I've lived there...and that's three too many in my opinion!  One time there was one in the shower with me.  Yes, I danced...it wasn't pretty, so don't even try to torture yourself with picturing it.

Here's a google image of the thing:

Tell me your skin isn't crawling...!?!??!!?!?
